Terms of Service

Effective 2026-08-16

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of OpenPlace. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use OpenPlace.

What OpenPlace is

OpenPlace is a platform that connects hosts who list a spare place at a real-world experience with guests who request to join. We provide software and marketplace tools. We are not the organiser of the experience, and we do not control what happens at the venue or event. Additional disclaimers are in our Legal page.

Accounts

  • You must provide accurate information and keep your login secure.
  • You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction (and meet any age rules set by a host for a place).
  • One person, one account. Do not share credentials or create accounts to evade enforcement.
  • Listing a place or requesting to join may require identity verification through Stripe Identity.

Host responsibilities

  • List places you are entitled to offer, with honest descriptions of the experience, timing, location precision, price, and any requirements.
  • Honour confirmed places, communicate promptly, and cancel only when necessary.
  • Comply with applicable laws for your gathering (including alcohol, venue rules, and safety).
  • For paid places, complete Stripe Connect onboarding to receive payouts. A listed price does not guarantee you will recover what you originally spent.

Guest responsibilities

  • Request or join places in good faith. Show up when confirmed, or cancel early so someone else can take the place.
  • Respect the host, other guests, and the venue. Follow stated requirements (age, dress, accessibility notes, and so on).
  • Keep conversations and payments on OpenPlace. Do not pressure anyone to move off-platform.

Payments and fees

Free places stay free: no OpenPlace platform fee and no Stripe card fee. On paid places, OpenPlace takes a platform fee of about 10% of the list price. The host chooses whether guests pay that fee on top of the list price, or whether it comes from the host's payout. Stripe card processing fees are borne by the host and deducted from what the host receives.

Payments are processed by Stripe. OpenPlace never stores credit card details. Refunds for paid places follow OpenPlace's payment handling and Stripe's processing; do not assume an instant automatic refund in every case.

Cancellations

Hosts and guests may cancel before an experience starts, subject to product rules (for example before check-in). Cancelling frees the place so someone else may take it. If a host cancels, related bookings are cancelled and guests are notified. For paid places, refunds are handled through OpenPlace's payment flow. Use Help if something looks wrong.

Acceptable use

  • No illegal, harmful, harassing, discriminatory, or deceptive conduct.
  • No ticket scalping or using OpenPlace as a pure resale market for tickets you are flipping.
  • No scraping, reverse engineering, or interfering with security or availability of the service.
  • No posting others' personal information without a lawful basis, and no spam.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms, create safety risks, or harm the marketplace. You may delete your account from Account settings, subject to retention needed for legal, security, or payment reasons. Provisions that by nature should survive (including liability limits in our Legal page) continue after termination.

Changes

We may update these Terms as OpenPlace evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms, except where applicable law requires a different process.
