How OpenPlace works
Someone cancelled, so a place opened up. Hosts list that spare place. You can join an event you weren't originally invited to.
Fees & payouts
Free places stay free: no OpenPlace platform fee and no Stripe card fee. On paid places, OpenPlace takes a platform fee of about 10% of the list price. The host chooses whether guests pay that fee on top of the list price or whether it comes from the host's payout. Stripe card processing is always deducted from what the host receives, not absorbed by OpenPlace, and not added as a surprise guest surcharge beyond what checkout shows. Hosts connect Stripe from Payouts to get paid. A listed price never guarantees the host will recover what they originally spent.
Identity verification
Listing a place or requesting to join requires identity verification through Stripe Identity. You submit a government ID and a matching selfie on Stripe's flow. OpenPlace does not store your ID documents; we only keep your verification status. Start or check status from Account → Identity verification, or the topic below.

Review the places you've joined, open your check-in pass, and manage cancellations.

Questions about a place are best answered by the person hosting it.
- Account & security
Update your password, turn on two-factor authentication and manage sessions.
- Verify your identity
Stripe Identity verifies who you are before you list or join. OpenPlace never stores your ID documents.
Staying safe
Keep conversations and payments on OpenPlace, meet in public where you can, and trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, stop and reach out to the host through Messages before going ahead.
